If you're in a position to view the universe from a distance you probably don't have to worry much about a mere stack overflow. There's always the possibility that the universe is written in lisp and so does not have a stack, too.
The regular expressions - they always seem like a good idea to begin with, and it's only when you're halfway through trying to write a regular expression to replace the period halfway through your novel with a comma that you realise the delete key might have been a more effective solution.
