Hmmm, doesn't always work that way. I left school after being forced to write, draw, and compose in various compulsary private school electives, convinced that I couldn't write, I couldn't draw, and I couldn't compose. And that I would never, could never enjoy any of those things. Now, I do all three to varying degrees of competence. On the other hand, the arts I did at home because I wanted to: sewing, woodwork, piano, etc., I always understood that any point at which I was dissatisfied with my skill would get better with research and practice, and I ended up decidedly above average in all of them, to the point where I designed and sewed my own wedding dress, built my own Tetris shaped bookshelves, etc. But that understanding that practice creates skill was crushed out of me by trying to produce art-for-assessment.
