A Birthday Whinge
I must admit, this birthday has been... possibly the worst I've ever had. Which really isn't saying much, but it's still inspired me to have a bit of a whinge.
The day before yesterday, I found this totally evil parasite of evil on one of our cats, which was well into its evil evil work of paralysing him. I had to remove said creature of evil myself, since it was 1am when I discovered it, then fret all night over whether I should find a 24 hour veterinarian or whether I was doing the right thing to wait until morning before getting him attached to an IV drip of antievilvenom.
I had only got one present delivered on my actual birthday, yesterday - which is understandable, since my family is banding together for a big present together, which I'll get tomorrow at my party, but is still a little disheartening.
Then the presentless and totally excuseless Hubby had to leave first thing in the morning to go interstate on business overnight, my computer had a horrific and totally!random meltdown, and even the not!meltdown!related!work I was doing was mind-numingly tedious and requirous of massive amounts of concentration without any particular payoff of being actually!interesting.
Then, in some kind of bout of masochism inspired by the previous events, I decided to spend the early evening cooking frozen dinners. So now, I have 6 Beefs Burgundy(Oh, teh grammar! *swoons*) to consume at will. Which sounded like a really good idea up until the point where I'd been chopping up meat and vegies and carefully flouring and browning and mixing for an hour and a half before I could even leave the darn thing to stew in its own juices.
Before I continue this marathon whinge about my half-empty glass, however, I will note that I did spend an exeedingly enjoyable evening watching videos with my sister, the Beef Burgundy was mmmmmmm *kisses fingers dramatically*, that I got to pick up my cat from the vet, who is much better, and can stand up straight and even miaow properly now his vocal chords are unparalysed, and that they actually charged me less than I'd expected for fixing him up.
That spark of optimism out of the way, I proceeded to ruin the lovely enjoyable feeling of all that, when...
Insanity proper set in at about 11pm, as I waved goodbye to my sister, looked at the dishes from my first batch of frozen dinners and thought something incomprehensibly along the lines of "I don't feel like doing those right now - how about I do some more cooking instead?" and then ended up spending another couple of hours peeling and chopping and stirring and browning and mixing and kicking myself repeatedly - then washing twice as many dishes, now with the assistance of a potato-peeling blister, at 2am.
On the bright side, I've now also got 12 (!!) Shepherd's Pies to add to my collection, which brings the total of frozen meals up to 39 - more than enough to get me through the month of November without having to lift a finger to feed myself. Although I still think I'll do a few more batches - a whole month on a rotating set of five dishes is probably pushing it a little bit - and who knows? Maybe I'll manage to get enough done that I won't have to cook until Christmas! (Yes, by the way, I have a freezer of a size that could comfortably house a small colony of Emporer penguins. For exactly this reason.)
On the even brighter side, this morning has been fantastic, and I've even got a wonderfully awesomely cool new sig from Ally, starring [/pun] cool allusions to Threes and Orion's Belt. *sighs in happiness* Since it's finally my birthday across on the other side of the world, I've decided that I shall henceforth celebrate my birthday on US time.
*nodnod* That'll work.
